The United States has always been the top choice for individuals seeking to escape persecution, as well as economic and political instability in their home countries. It is puzzling why some of our leaders choose to criticize the country and its people. What do they stand to gain by doing so? There is no other country that people are more passionate about, willing to fight for, and even sacrifice their lives to build a new life in. No rational person would seek to emigrate to a country governed by a dictatorial or autocratic regime. To understand and appreciate what the United States has to offer, we only need to look at the experiences of our ancestors and those who bravely emigrated to this great nation. They risked everything to become a part of it. While we may not have experienced their struggles firsthand, it is our duty to recognize the value of preserving what this country stands for.
